A season of womenbold harmonies, and beautiful defiance.

Where last year’s Brat era shouted into the algorithm, this year’s energy is more collective. It’s Wet Leg’s wink, Haim’s sisterhood, Remember Monday’s harmony, and Chapel Heart’s hey y’all and Diva Gurl’s glitter rage. All threading together into something that feels like a musical matriarchy. It’s joy, rage, healing, and fire, shared.

Sisterhood Summer has been:

  • Putting your friends on the aux

  • Sending each other playlists instead of doomscrolls

  • Jumping with each other at concerts and on dance floors

  • Dressing however the hell you want

There’s something about summer that makes you want to roll the windows down and let the stereo do the talking, and there is something about Fall that continues to have us play it loud. This season, I’m curating a sonic love letter to sisterhood, sass, and shredding the status quo, starting with five bands that deserve top billing on your next mix tape: Wet LegHaimRemember Mondays, Chapel Heart, and Diva Gurl.

These bands aren’t just making music. They’re making statements. They’re joyfully subversive, unapologetically curious, stylish as hell, and give off enormous “we make our own rules” energy. Honestly? Vibes I want in everything this season.

I declare that punk is back.

🎸 Wet Leg: Post-Punk with a Wink

If you haven’t shouted along to “Chaise Longue” yet, what are we even doing here? Wet Leg came in hot out of the Isle of Wight with angular guitar riffs, cheeky lyrics, and a tongue-in-vinegar sense of humor. Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers are the duo behind this quirky rock phenomenon, and they are pure, distilled Gen Z-meets-riot grrrl realness.

Their self-titled debut is full of songs that feel like inside jokes whispered between besties at the back of the bus. This is razor-sharp social commentary wrapped in fuzzy hooks. Whether you're spiraling or thriving (or both, honestly), Wet Leg gets it.

Mix Tape Must-Add:

  • “Chaise Longue” – for dancing in your kitchen like nobody’s watching

  • “Wet Dream” – for breakups, glow-ups, and reclaiming your weird

🥁 Haim: The Laurel Canyon Cool Girls We Grew Up With

The Haim sisters: Este, Danielle, and Alana are the forever-girls of California rock. Their music is sun-soaked, bass-driven, and endlessly layered. It’s giving ‘Fleetwood Mac and growing up on TLC,’

There’s something magic about how they mix rock, R&B, and synth-pop without ever losing that signature sisterly groove. Listening to Haim is like hanging out with your smartest, funniest girlfriends. They are equal parts tender, nostalgic, and fierce. They remind us that vulnerability is a form of power. And also that bass faces are rad.

Mix Tape Must-Add:

  • “The Steps” a whole feminist anthem disguised as a breakup bop

  • “Want You Back” nostalgia core with harmonies that hit you in the chest

🌼 Remember Mondays: Country Harmony with a Fresh Twist

If you haven’t met Remember Mondays yet, let me introduce you to your new road trip soundtrack. This trio, Jessie Shapiro, Kristen Brown, and Taylor Brock is redefining modern country with tight harmonies, big choruses, and a vibe that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly current.

You might recognize them from The Voice (Team Kelly Clarkson, naturally), but their story goes way beyond reality TV. Remember Mondays started as friends making music in living rooms and turned into one of the most exciting indie country acts on the scene.

What makes them stand out? It’s the feeling that you’re listening to your three coolest girlfriends sing about love, heartbreak, and all the little ways we survive and thrive. Their sound is warm, confident, and deeply goddessy, think Kacey Musgraves, with a dash of California sunshine and groove.

Mix Tape Must-Add:

  • “The Road” pure freedom, windows-down energy

  • “Maybe in the Morning” heartbreak that still feels hopeful

  • “Drive” for late-night highways and big dreams

💫 Chapel Hart: Country’s New Power Trio

There’s no such thing as too many powerhouse women in country music, and Chapel Hart is adding their unforgettable voices to the chorus. This family trio, sisters Danica and Devynn Hart and their cousin Trea Swindle, are rewriting what modern country can look and sound like.

Hailing from Poplarville, Mississippi, Chapel Hart blends soulful gospel roots with foot-stomping country and rock. Their harmonies are massive, their songs are fierce, and their energy feels like a revival tent and a roadhouse rolled into one.

They made a massive splash on America’s Got Talent, winning the Golden Buzzer and instantly capturing hearts with their unapologetic presence. They’re proof that you don’t have to fit any mold to break through.

Mix Tape Must-Add:

  • “You Can Have Him Jolene” a clever, defiant sequel to the Dolly classic

  • “The Girls Are Back in Town” a summer anthem for showing up and showing out

  • “American Pride” harmonies that’ll give you chills

✨ Diva Gurl: Pop Punk with a Feminist Edge

Diva Gurl is here to remind you that pop-punk never died—it just got smarter, fiercer, and more inclusive. This rising indie band combines neon-bright guitar hooks with lyrics that tackle a range of topics, from toxic relationships to self-empowerment.

Their sound is the best kind of throwback: considerable Warped Tour energy with a grown-up, feminist twist. If you ever screamed along to Paramore or Avril Lavigne but wanted more of a girl-gang vibe, Diva Gurl is your new obsession.

Whether you’re moshing at a club or dancing in your bedroom, they’re the perfect soundtrack to reclaim your loudest, most defiant self.

Mix Tape Must-Add:

  • “Not Your Doll” – the anthem for refusing to be underestimated

  • “Glitter Bomb” – high-octane pop-punk joy

  • “Cut the Cord” – for letting go and leveling up

🔥 Why They Belong on Your Next Mix Tape

Because this is the season of reclamation. Of joy. Of volume. These women are at the forefront, crafting the kind of music that feels like freedom. And isn’t that the ultimate summer soundtrack?

So here’s your call to action:

Make your playlist. Add them all. Dance it out, sing too loud, feel everything. And if someone asks what you’re listening to, smile and say, “This is what liberation sounds like.”

I don’t know about you but I must start my day with music, as a budding DJ I love spinning house music, funk and disco (my GenX childhood and roots) and for my morning get up and go motivation I want to hear women’s voices telling it like it is, connecting to my heart and soul and helping me find the motivation to keep going, keep saying my truth, keep moving my body to stay strong, and to be inspired to use my voice to say things that need saying.

Your next mix tape, now full of new music - woot woot!

Thank you to our musicians and artists who inspire us!

Press Play. And pass it on.

Joy is resistance. Rest is strategy. Play is protest.

Empathy makes us human; action makes us warriors.

Grateful you’ve let my words find a place in your day.
