Are Superheroes Social Justice Warriors? - Panel Discussion at WonderCon 2019

Are Superheroes Social Justice Warriors? - Panel Discussion at WonderCon 2019

As a lover of comic books, graphic novels, artists, superheroes movies and TV series I’m giddy about being involved with this project. Who hasn’t spun around like Wonder Woman as a young girl or maybe, um, yesterday? To see her and so many other brilliant superheroes in print, in cool TV series and on the big screen bringing justice to the world makes my heart sing.

Thrilled to announce that I’m moderating my first education/how to panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con with an amazing group of panelists.

Show Me The Social Handles! — Event Maven Tips for Event Producers

Show Me The Social Handles! — Event Maven Tips for Event Producers

I’m sitting at an event, enthralled with the speaker. I jot down a quote, I take a photo, and I think, “I want to tweet this and post it to Instagram and Twitter.”

I look at the slides being shared. I search my conference program, the conference website, and my conference app for the speaker’s social handles.

THEY ARE NOT LISTED ANYWHERE.

Now I’m distracted, trying to listen to the rest of the talk. I want to be present, and I’ve paid to be here. Instead, I’m trolling a search engine on my phone for the speaker’s name — no results — so I give up for the moment. My tweet/Instagram post is half written and saved in draft.

This conspicuous absence of speaker social accounts presents itself at most events I attend, on every level from user groups to meetups to industry events to large technology conferences.

This is a call, an appeal to ALL EVENT PRODUCERS.

The Lovely People of Puerto Rico — SharePoint Saturday Caribbean

The Lovely People of Puerto Rico — SharePoint Saturday Caribbean

Wherever I travel the thing that lights me up about a city is always its people. The cities I love the most trend to similar affinities. Many times they are beach communities with musicians, artists, surfers, skaters and street art, and have an eclectic mix of people.

San Juan, Puerto Rico has all of the above. Talking with the local technology community and locals working in San Juan, they speak of being on the mend, still in need and still wondering why they were otherwise forgotten.

What Burning Man Taught Me About Belonging

What Burning Man Taught Me About Belonging

I was always the new kid, the transplant growing up because my Father was good at his job, a fixer. A JCPenney Department Store needed to be turned around, and so he would be promoted, he did this for his 40-year career there, and thus our family moved to many new places.

It is one of the things that made me the extrovert I am today.
