To the producers, the logistics folks. The ones who set up. Go early, stay till after the party is over.

Big ups to all those who are there when the canvas is blank. And clean up after all the festivities are done. The ones in the crew clothing, backstage, behind the curtain, watching from afar or above, many times the ‘all blacks’.

Those are the producers, the ones who get it done.

World Suicide Prevention Day, a Personal Story

World Suicide Prevention Day, a Personal Story

A few thoughts on getting through, what happens after a suicide, when you are the one(s) that are left. What do you do, how do you cope and make sense of things? This is a personal story of my family.

Words Matter, Relating To One Another — Diversity, Inclusion and Intersectionality

Words Matter, Relating To One Another — Diversity, Inclusion and Intersectionality

When one works and speaks on Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging you tend to stir up emotions, deep-seeded fears, passion, and sometimes anger.

There are a pain and suffering in our world that comes with being held back, tamped down, passed over and abused because of race, religion, gender, sexual orientations, and for people with disabilities.

There is anger when someone gets called out for certain behavior, using certain words, and simply speaking from where they grew up, how they were raised, what was considered “okay” or “normal” or words that have been in our language for decades. The thing is, is that there is no normal. I don’t think so anyway.

When You Break Up With Your Phone & Invite The Quiet

When You Break Up With Your Phone & Invite The Quiet

I have thirteen Twitter accounts on my phone that I “manage” or do things with for either my two companies, a smattering of clients, organizations, and a few family members (they get stuck sometimes).

I have six Facebook accounts as well, three Instagram, only one Snapchat, a myriad of messaging apps and conference calling software.

Countless email addresses, seven that I actively use daily.

A bunch of Office 365 Tenants.

And now double-digit Microsoft Teams.

One Slack, yes just one.

And I am absolutely and utterly angry that I now wear readers, which I lend to many to read menus.

Happy Women’s Equality Weekend!

According to the joint resolution by Congress in 1971, “NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that August 26th of each year is designated as Women’s Equality Day, and the President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation annually in commemoration of that day in 1920, on which the women of America were first given the right to vote, and that day in 1970, on which a nationwide demonstration for women’s rights took place.”

LETS GET READY TO PUT SOME MORE POWER TO THE POLLS.

If I Kick It

If I Kick It

I hope to live to be an old lady but if I don’t here is what I’d suggest happens.

For me to be cremated, and ashes spread in a body of water, perhaps the Pacific Ocean or in the Mississippi River.

For the funeral to be a celebration of my soul going back into the pool, well of souls or wherever we go for the next beautiful round.

Please make the service a funky glitter disco dance party with the movie Xanadu playing in the background or a viewing. Lots of glitter, lots of phat beats and horns, lots and lots of popcorn and lots and lots of rum. A second line. Maybe a sunset. Not to be too demanding from the ether…

When We Screw Up — The Power of I’m Sorry

When We Screw Up — The Power of I’m Sorry

Things happen.

The unforeseen.

The accident.

The mishap.

A thoughtless phase uttered in public or in private.

Things beyond ones control.

Even things within one’s control but that don’t go the right way.

Tis life.

But when they do, and you disappoint someone, don’t make a commitment, don’t show up, can’t do something you said you’d do, there is an easy way to deal with that.

Freshen Up That Lip Gloss, Darlin

I’m covered in oil from the bags of coffee I’m pouring into the dispensers. One of the early morning jobs I have at The Epicurean kitchen store at the mall.

I have an apron on over one of my “Sunday best” work dresses. That and high heels are a requirement of the dress code for the women of the store.

Though I am lugging and opening heavy boxes of merchandise and coffee to put on the shelves, heels must be worn at all times.

I have worked here for 4 months. I have been promoted to Assistant Manager. I have the highest sales of anyone in the store. We make commission on everything we sell.

I’m 23.
