What Burning Man Taught Me About Belonging

What Burning Man Taught Me About Belonging

I was always the new kid, the transplant growing up because my Father was good at his job, a fixer. A JCPenney Department Store needed to be turned around, and so he would be promoted, he did this for his 40-year career there, and thus our family moved to many new places.

It is one of the things that made me the extrovert I am today.

Pour Some Sugar on Me — Glazed, Hot Comedy

Pour Some Sugar on Me — Glazed, Hot Comedy

Another epic night seeing comedy in Los Angeles. To be glazed, overlaid with a smooth, shiny surface. Yes, that is exactly what Mike Glazer brings to the stage during his monthly comedy cornucopia called Glazed at The Hollywood Improv (The Lab) straight up smooth and shiny goodness. Glazed is like a perfect donut. Sweet, sugary, where you feel a little dirty, a little shy that you maybe ate two or three of those sinful bad boys. (Your secret is safe with me, go ahead have one more. Cause they are DELICIOUS). Third Thursday of the month for the next helping of yum.

A Beautiful Awards Brunch and a Museum for Women’s History — NWHM

Being surrounded with powerful, amazing women taking action is a place I love to be. Last weekend I attended the Women Making History Awards — National Women’s History Museum Brunch here in Los Angeles.

Ready for Microsoft Ignite? Event Maven Tips to Rock It!

#MSIgnite 2018 will be the third Microsoft Ignite I’ve attended (my first TechEds were Barcelonaand Dallas, TX in 2003). Microsoft Ignite is Microsoft’s largest ITPro/Dev event of the year featuring hundreds of technical sessions and hands-on workshops, a massive expo floor, tons of parties and, something I am very proud to be a part of, a whole track devoted to learning about and fostering Diversity and Inclusion.

As an Event Maven who used to produce these events for Microsoft, I know a few ins and outs to get the most knowledge, networking, and fun out of it.

Here are some tips & tricks to help you create a productive and memorable Microsoft Ignite experience.

Cue the Music, Cue the Lights, It’s Magic Time #MSIgnite

To the producers, the logistics folks. The ones who set up. Go early, stay till after the party is over.

Big ups to all those who are there when the canvas is blank. And clean up after all the festivities are done. The ones in the crew clothing, backstage, behind the curtain, watching from afar or above, many times the ‘all blacks’.

Those are the producers, the ones who get it done.

A Birthday Thank You from Las Vegas.

A Birthday Thank You from Las Vegas.

From a city where I turned 21, a long time ago, I wanted to say thank you to the loving Joyner family for having me tag along to their family reunion at The Jockey Club way back when to celebrate with Shannan, Beth, Tina, and Meganne, my wonderful high school girlfriends. I turned 21 on the dot in the Aladdin which is now where Planet Hollywood stands — that was such a great trip. Respects to Dick and Dottie Joyner who are no longer with us and were such kind, dear, fun people who made me part of their family during my high school years in Wheaton, IL.

Power to the People: A Look Into The Activism of Cancer Survivor and Social Justice Warrior, Jimmy “Taboo” Gomez

When you have a platform of millions of fans and followers, there are ways to use that platform for good and to empower others. As a member of the globally known band The Black Eyed Peas that is exactly what rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, DJ, activist, and cancer-survivor Jimmy “Taboo” Gomez does every day. Social justice warriors come in many shapes and sizes, and Taboo brings his heart and passion to many groups and issues that are near and dear to him for the betterment of our world.

As a lover of comic books, graphic novels, artists, superheroes movies and TV series I’m giddy about being involved with this project. Who hasn’t spun around like Wonder Woman as a young girl or maybe, um, yesterday? To see her and so many other brilliant superheroes in print, in cool TV series and on the big screen bringing justice to the world makes my heart sing.

Thrilled to announce that I’m moderating my first education/how to panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con with an amazing group of panelists.
