The Magic of Yard Art.

The grape girl and I have been together for a long while. She’s stood in many a yard watching over us. She was a gift to me from Jim. Perfect for wine country.

I’ve always loved her. And all the gnomes, fairies, angels, whirligigs, reflectors and chimes we’ve had over the years.

Yard art is one of my favorite things from being a kid. My Mom has an affinity for working antiques- an old clothing wringer, a water pump fountain, farm implements. Bird feeders and the like. Items you use to do the manual work of life and geraniums lots and lots of them. Dad too but his territory is keeping everything in working condition and the vegetable garden, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini and more. They make a great pair.

My Grandparents house was a treasure trove of wonder and magic. Everything made by hand in his garage workshop.

A huge working Dutch windmill.

A patio, brick oven, and shelter.

A paper mache real sized brown bear on the roof of the garage.

A Japanese 5-foot tall bird feeder pagoda.

A farmer cutting wood when the windmill spun round.

And large wooden swings and gliders for long talks at twilight.

Back and forth.

Back and forth.

Laughter.

Stars.

Lightning Bugs.

I’m a Summer baby, but I love the change into Fall. The cooling off, the crisper air. The cozy. The art of the snuggle.

Put me outside in a blanket in front of a fire, and I’ll stay for hours.

Visiting people and seeing what they have in their yards is one of my favorite things. There is always that one piece that is the pride and joy. The one that has a memory or a moment in time that marks a spark.

Yes, it may be a simple gnome, but it’s there to remind you of that time, a secret story that most people will never hear.

So to my grape girl, thank you for bearing witness, oh the stories she could tell.

Luckily she can’t.

But I’ll tell you one about her.

She’s not made of stone, but resin.

But weathered just the same.

Thank you for giving some claps if you liked this. :)
