With Grace.

Day 12, 30-day #candleflame challenge.

“As essence turns to ocean,/the particles glisten./

Watch how in this candleflame instant/blaze all the moments you have lived.”

~Rumi

It is often easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

-Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper

If you don’t know who Grace Hopper is, you should.

In 1944, she was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer

Invented the first compiler for a computer programming language

Popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages

which led to the development of COBOL

one of the first high-level programming languages. And there is an amazing conference in her honor that is held every year.

Another quote of hers is:

A ship in port is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for.

I am happily on the board, executive committees of many “Women in….” organizations. We recently launched Women in Information Management via AIIM International. WIIM!

I meet so many brilliant, powerful, bright women in my travels, technology, cyber, robotics, aerospace, and the theatre.

I love the fierce women in my life and how we take care of each other and lift each other up.

I can’t stand it when we tear each other down.

We can be our own worst enemy sometimes.

But 99.999% of the time it’s not that way.

Sisters, thank you from the ones that came before to those today and all the little girls and young women that are coming up.

Remember that they only way we succeed is together with each other and the men in our lives.

I am always hopeful for tomorrow to be better than the next no matter what silliness is thrust upon us, countless laws that are challenged or silliness proclaimed on Twitter.

We’ve got this.

Another one from Ms Potter:

You don’t manage people; you manage things. You lead people.

Lead on ladies. And heed a few tips from Amazing Grace.

Thank you for giving that little heart below a nudge if you liked this. :)
