Day 8, June 2016, 30-day #bornwithwings writing challenge. Inspired by this excerpt of a poem by Rumi: "You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don't. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly."
Weird. (Crazy Ones. Misfits)
I've always liked this word. And always liked the people who were called weirdos.
I love that original Apple commercial… "Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits.."
See below for the whole thing.
Being a theatre major you are well acquainted with this moniker.
To get up in front of other people and sing, dance and pretend is seen as weird.
Appreciated but still weird. ("Theatre freaks" was usually the terminology).
We all have our quirks that make us unique, special, magical even.
We tend to gravitate to people who share those same qualities and traits.
You become part of a tribe.
You create things together and hope that people enjoy them.
You fall in love with those who appreciate your idiosyncrasies and you theirs.
The actual definition of weird means: suggesting something supernatural; uncanny. Of strange or extraordinary character.
If you look at the archaic Scottish meaning it says: a person's destiny.
So your weird, your own special brand of who you are is your destiny.
I love people who push the envelope and who push me personally to think differently.
I hope I do that for people.
So be awesome weirdos we need more of that in the world.
Wave your freak flag and dream and dream big.
We all change the world by changing ourselves every day.
Weird is the new black.
Is Weird your spirit animal?
