Day 29, June 2016, 30-day #bornwithwings writing challenge. Connection.
I do love speaking at events.
I've loved producing events.
There is a satisfaction to creating an experience for people that keeps you buzzing for days.
Crafting, curating, sculpting moments, feelings, environments.
The theatre person in me loves the dramatic, the large scale spectacle that is possible when you have a decent amount of money.
But we also used to produce actual plays back in Seattle days with our theatre company GREX for $2500 a pop with most of that going to marketing.
That is about what a 20x20 piece of carpet costs from Freeman for a trade show.
For awhile conferences and tradeshows were out of favor and Content Marketing became the rage.
I think we're headed back to events because its so hard to cut through the noise online.
I personally have 14 books on my Kindle to read, blogs and podcasts from months ago to catch up on so to grab my attention with email or social is a feat and I'm an appreciative marketer. (And I don't have kids to deal with).
I'd rather be outside these days too so that wins over most other things.
I think video and live video - consumable at your pace - is the big winner these days.
AND human to human, face to face contact at events.
People are tired of exploding inboxes they want a connection, a story, a laugh, to learn something new.
I know I do.
Is it educational or entertaining or both. That's the key to a message that I'll pick my head up for…
And a connection with someone. It's easy to recognize passion and that wins with me every time as well.
Well, we'll see if I'm right or not.
