Day 2, June 2016, #BornWithWings - Writing Challenge - Measurement

Day 2, June 2016, 30-day writing challenge. Inspired by this excerpt of a poem by Rumi: "You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don't. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly."  Hanalei Bay, Kauai Hawaii

The assignment of a number to a characteristic of an object or an event.

Which you compare to others.

Inches count.

When you have struggled with your weight most of your adult life.

You see things differently.

You calculate, you visualize moments, you play them through.
You make the moment work or die a slow moment of embarrassment.
Will I fit?

Will that close?

Can I ride that ride?

Can I schooch through?

We don't have anything here that would fit you. (Shopping for a wedding dress in Dallas TX, I was a size 10 at the time.) Am I free to do the things my friends are doing?

Am I free?

You don't like the word stuck.

Or narrow.

The question "would you like the booth" reigns terror to your ears.

You understand that when described you are plus sized, the big or bigger girl, the Amazon, thick - all of which are fairly innocuous.
Others you don't overhear are less nice, the stuff of elementary school recess.
Big, small, short, tall every person I know has body issues. Everyone.

So this isn't anything original but it's been some of mine.
Feeling healthy is the most important thing.

Two things you can't have enough of: time and good health.

So the photo from the plane this morning is when you do feel a bit more "fit" and the belt is loose and you feel a little more free.

Especially when you've worked on it.

Inches don't count. How you feel and if you are happy do.

But it's nice to see some slack on the belt.
